The perfect place to unwind and reset
In a world where the pace of life seems to accelerate daily, imagine my excitement when 28 Degrees Byron invited me to stay for wellness weekend recently. Bliss! Work has been so hectic this year, so I found myself craving more than just a break—I needed a reset! The usual weekend away or a day at the spa wouldn’t cut it. I needed space to unwind completely, to reconnect with myself, and to feel grounded again. 28 Degrees Byron, a boutique wellness escape nestled in the heart of Byron Bay, turned out to be everything I didn’t know I was searching for.

From the moment I arrived, I felt like I had stepped into a serene pocket of calm. 28 Degrees isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a sanctuary. The attention to detail is remarkable, yet effortlessly subtle. This isn’t luxury for show; it’s luxury for the soul. I stayed in a plunge pool room on the ground floor. It was perfect! My very own private pool? Have I died and gone to Heaven? Yes please!
The property is an adult-only retreat, which immediately set the tone for a quiet, restorative two days ahead. The design is coastal chic with a distinct Hamptons feel—think whitewashed walls, timber floors, plush linen furnishings, and an abundance of natural light. There’s a softness to everything here, from the textures of the bedding to the flow of the layout. It feels both elevated and grounding all at once.

The moment I stepped through the French doors into my private oasis, the stress I had carried in with me seemed to dissolve. The plunge pool was heated to the perfect temperature, inviting me to float beneath the open sky at any hour. The room itself was a haven—luxurious linen sheets, a deep soaking bathtub, and a mini pantry stocked with organic treats, herbal teas, and locally made goodies.
Each morning began slowly, which felt like a luxury in itself. There’s no restaurant at 28 Degrees, but that’s part of the magic. The fridge in my room was stocked with seasonal breakfast items—organic yogurt, granola, local fruits, and cold-pressed juices—which I enjoyed barefoot on the private sun-drenched deck. No rush, no noise, no expectations!

What makes 28 Degrees truly special is the emphasis on wellness through simplicity. It’s not about pushing a detox regime or packing your days with activities. The wellness comes naturally—through deep rest, quiet contemplation, and the gentle encouragement to be present. There are no TVs in the rooms, which I appreciated. Instead, I found myself journaling, reading, or simply soaking in the stillness. I may have look at my phone once or twice for FOMO, but I desperately tried not to!
That said, the retreat’s location is ideal for exploring Byron Bay if and when you feel ready to emerge. The beach is a short walk away, as are some of the town’s best cafés and wellness spots. I booked a massage nearby and took a yoga class, both just minutes from the retreat. But the truth is, I often found myself hurrying back to 28 Degrees. It was where I felt most nourished.

One of my favourite aspects of the stay was the eco-conscious ethos that underpins everything. The retreat is solar-powered, uses rainwater tanks, and is free of single-use plastics. Even the in-room beauty products are organic, refillable, and Australian-made. There’s a strong sense that everything here has been chosen with purpose and care—not just for the guest experience, but for the planet as well.

On my last full day, I settled into a rhythm that felt deeply restorative. I began the morning with a cup of herbal tea and a quiet meditation beside the pool, journaled my intentions for the day, and spent the afternoon reading and sunbathing. In the evening, I wandered down to the beach to watch the sunset and then returned to take a long, indulgent bath with salts and essential oils. I hadn’t felt that kind of peace in years.

What 28 Degrees gave me wasn’t just a beautiful place to stay—it offered space. Space to rest. Space to reflect. Space to remember how it feels to be in tune with myself again. There’s something powerful about staying in a place that expects nothing of you, that allows you to just be.
As I packed to leave, I felt lighter—emotionally, mentally, and even physically. I wasn’t in a rush to get home, nor did I feel the usual post-holiday anxiety. Instead, I felt a soft confidence, a sense that I had recharged not just my body, but my spirit.
Would I return? In a heartbeat. But more importantly, I now carry a little of 28 Degrees with me. In the way I slow down my mornings, in the moments I choose stillness, and in the reminder that wellness doesn’t always need structure—it sometimes just needs space.
