Bloat, Be Gone: Are Colonics the Key?

Bloating… It’s something no one likes. Period.

Especially if, like me, you have a gluten and dairy intolerance, or a passion for fresh sourdough bread with delicious Italian cheese; you’re probably walking around feeling as bloated as a balloon. I know.. Because it happens to me. And, when this happens, there is one thing I do: have a colonic. Cleansing me from head to toe, each and every time, I walk away feeling lighter, clearer and bloat-free. If you’re colonic-curious, here’s everything you need to know…

What Exactly Is a Colonic?
A colonic is a gentle, water-based internal cleanse of the large intestine. The goal? To help remove built-up waste, gas, and toxins that may be slowing down your digestive system.
Unlike over-the-counter laxatives or harsh cleanses, colonics are performed in a controlled, hygienic setting by trained therapists. For the purpose of this story, I was fortunate enough to visit the wonderful Cee at Your Urban Detox, nestled in the heart of Double Bay, Sydney. Compassionate, caring and thorough, I am certain that it wasn’t just the treatment, but her treatment of me that allowed me to fully release, cleanse and let go.

Benefits
Many women report noticeable shifts after just one session, self included. Highlights include:
● Reduced bloating
● Increased mental clarity
● Improved energy levels
● A sense of lightness—physically and emotionally

There’s also academic evidence to suggest colonics can help to reboot sluggish digestion, improve nutrient absorption, and support the body’s natural elimination pathways too… which I definitely noticed too.

Is It Right for You?
While many find it helpful, colonics aren’t for everyone. Those with digestive disorders, recent surgeries, or certain health conditions should avoid them… if you’re not sure, consult your doctor.

When to visit?
Pre-holiday; perfect. Post holiday; perfect. Spring cleanse? Also perfect. Anytime you feel you need to cleanse, clear out and let go, exactly as I did… book in. One thing I will recommend though, is to have a series of 3. You’ll be amazed of what comes out in sessions 2 and 3, and feel lighter, brighter and more energetic than you can remember. Look forward to it… trust me, like me, it will come to be your favourite session of the week.
