Mel Bailey

She heated up the competition last year on Channel 7’s My Kitchen Rules as team NSW, with her cousin Jacinta. Now Mel Bailey is heating up the dance studio, just for us, in the new Under Armour HeatGear collection*!

Do you have a morning routine that you swear by?
You’ll often finding me on my morning walk, whether it’s along the coast or barefoot on the beach, with a coffee in hand listening to a podcast.

Was health and fitness important to you growing up, and how has your fitness philosophy changed over the years?
Yes, health and fitness have always been important to me. As I’ve matured, my perspective on fitness has evolved from being focused on performance and appearance to prioritising overall wellbeing. I now value activities that support both my physical and mental health, such as walking along the coast, spending time outdoors, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

How do you stay motivated on days when you don’t feel like working out?
I remind myself how good I feel afterwards. Motivation comes and goes, so I try not to rely on it. Instead, I focus on consistency and showing up, even if it’s just for a walk. More often than not, once I get started, I’m glad I did. It provides a positive reset and always leaves me feeling better.

What’s a fitness myth that you wish would go away, and why?
That you need to spend hours in the gym to get results. Most people can make great progress with shorter, consistent workouts or by doing something enjoyable, such as a dance class. I’ve learned through different stages of my life that health and fitness are about consistency and balance, and finding activities you genuinely enjoy and can stick with long term.

What is your approach to nutrition? How do you maintain balance and still enjoy your favourite foods?
I try to keep things simple and focus on balance. I eat nutritious foods that make me feel good and support an active lifestyle, but I don’t believe in depriving myself of my favourite foods – like burger and chips, dark chocolate or a glass of wine. If I’m enjoying a meal out with family or friends, I’ll enjoy it and move on.
What’s your go-to treat?
I can’t go past a steak and frites night at one of my locals.

You’re working out in the gym – what are you listening to?
I love a good 2000s house music playlist. It has the perfect mix of energy and nostalgia to keep me motivated during a workout.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Make time for the things that fill your cup and health is wealth.
