Forget packed itineraries and alarm clocks. Our latest Byron Bay rainforest retreat reminded us what true restoration felt like – and boy, does it feel good
The new luxury
For years, we’ve been busy. Even on holiday. Sunrise hikes, restaurant bookings, markets, beach walks and endless checklists leave many of us returning home feeling as though we need another break.
Thankfully, this is changing.
Instead of chasing more experiences, we are being invited to slow down – and holidays are the perfect opportunity to do so.
That’s exactly the philosophy behind Crystalbrook Byron’s Rainforest Reset, a two-night escape tucked within 45 acres of subtropical rainforest on the edge of Tallow Beach.
From the moment I arrived, the pace changed.
There was nowhere I needed to rush to. No schedule demanding attention. Just winding boardwalks through lush rainforest, fresh coastal air and the comforting feeling that slowing down wasn’t just encouraged – it was the whole point.

Rainforest, not rush hour
One of the things we loved most was that the experience never felt overly programmed.
Two nights in Byron Bay bliss, and the only requirement was to waltz over to the spa for a massage, and make sure we were up for breakfast in time before it closed.
Heaven.
We spent the first night curled up on the daybed overlooking lush greenery – soaking in every moment of stillness, serenity. Day two was similar, swapping daybed for pool lounge, and spiced up with a delicious margarita (would be rude not to… right?).
There were optional yoga classes, rainforest walks and beach access, but with the view of maximum rest and relaxation in mind, we were very committed to laying in stillness – because again, would be rude not to.
We definitely felt less guilty doing this compared to if we did the same at home.
The idea of laying around all afternoon at home – can you imagine! Not when the house needs to be cleaned, kids need to be taken to sport, meal prep done for the week ahead, in-laws to visit, events to attend!
Yet – this is exactly what we did and WOW DID IT FEEL GOOD.
It’s a sign – it must be a sign.
Because honestly, when was the last time you actually switched off? Properly? Without feeling guilty? We just don’t do it. We’re told that being busy = good, doing nothing = lazy, unproductive, wrong. Well.
As your unofficial relaxation officer, we are here to protest this notion. Let’s make restoration part of our lives.
Let’s make more space for stillness, slowness, and trips that encourage us to do absolutely nothing.
If you’re up for it – I know just the place for you. But… the best is yet to come.

The massage worth travelling for
The massage. Oh – the massage.
Introducing Eléme Day Spa, and the signature Therapeutic Lava Shell Massage.
Lava Shells – sign me up.
You know when the therapists just know what you need, before you say you need it?
Uh-huh.
Giving that soulful, spiritual Byron Bay vibe, the massage was more than physical.
It was energetic healing. Holistic wellness girlies – you get it.
Energetically, I was changed in that session.
I arrived with tension, stress and tightness. I left with lightness, flexibility, ease.
I floated back to my room in my robe, grabbed a cuppa and sunk in the newfound sense of serenity.
Absolute bliss – highly recommend.
Would we go back?
Absolutely. And if we do – you have to come.
Come for a margarita by the pool.
Come and enjoy this delicious stone backed bread bun which comes with truffle infused butter (ooooft). Come for the stillness, silent, serenity.
Come to remember that rest, restoration – these are not bad things we should feel guilty for.
In fact, given how good we feel when we are in a relaxed state, this is a signal from our nervous system telling us: ‘do more of this, please!’.
Listen in with love – because a weekend of Byron Bay bliss may be exactly what your soul is asking for.
