Some cities don’t just dazzle — they restore. Vancouver, with its snow-capped peaks, sparkling waterfront and vibrant culture, is one of those rare destinations that both energises and soothes. I recently spent five days immersed in the city’s wellness scene and nearby retreats, and returned home deeply rested, inspired and renewed.
Restful Luxury in the City
My journey began at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, a sleek downtown sanctuary with sweeping views of the harbour and mountains. From the moment I checked in, the hotel set the tone: impeccable service, a pillow menu (yes, I chose lavender — bliss for post-flight nerves), and spa treatments at Orrin Spa that promised true reset.
Dining was equally restorative. Each morning at Carlino, Chef Mark Perrier’s Italian-inspired restaurant, I savoured fresh, nourishing breakfasts — fuel for full days of discovery.

Exploring by Bike and Breath
To see the city differently, I joined a Cycle City tour of Stanley Park. Pedalling along the seawall, past totem poles and towering evergreens, I felt my lungs fill with crisp coastal air. Our guide’s stories wove together history, culture and nature — a moving reminder that wellness is found as much in connection as in activity.
That theme deepened during the Talking Trees Tour, a First Nations-led walk through the park. Beneath the forest canopy, we learned about Indigenous teachings and medicinal plants — grounding, humbling, and a beautiful recalibration of what “wellness” really means.

Spa Rituals and Culinary Nourishment
Vancouver surprised me with its innovation in wellness. At Circle Wellness on Granville Island, I immersed in a 90-minute private thermal circuit: warm pools, heat therapies, and moments of stillness designed for nervous system reset. Back at the Hyatt, the 90-minute Orrin Ritual melted every trace of tension in a timber-lined cocoon of calm.
The city’s dining scene kept the theme alive. Thai flavours at Sainam delighted the senses; at Elem, produce-driven fine dining took centre stage, with cocktails crafted like mindful rituals — layered with botanicals, theatre, and intention.

Bowen Island Retreat
Midway through the trip, I boarded a short ferry to Bowen Island — where the air is scented with pine and saltwater, and time slows. At Nectar Yoga Retreat, nestled on 20 acres of untouched land, I found the ultimate wellness cocoon: minimalist cottages, organic vegetarian meals, and a geodesic dome for yoga and meditation.
The highlight? Mist, Nectar’s thermal sanctuary. Between sauna sessions, cold plunges and firelit rest areas, I felt my entire system recalibrate. Locally made oils and teas, infused with Douglas fir and lemongrass, deepened the sensory journey. Evenings meant simple yet exquisite meals — handmade pasta at Tuscany Restaurant or tapas at Barcelona by the Cove — followed by sleep as deep as the forest silence itself.

A Grand Finale Among the Trees
Back on the North Shore, my final day brought exhilaration at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Walking across the swaying bridge, 70 metres above the river, surrounded by rainforest, was both thrilling and humbling. The Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk pushed me beyond comfort zones — proof that wellness also comes from perspective shifts and a little courage.
Lunch at King Taps on the waterfront, finished with a scoop of Earnest Ice Cream, was the sweetest finale to a week of balance, indulgence and renewal.
