Lee, you’re renowned for your expertise in gut health! How did it start?
My journey into gut health began with my own health struggles. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and fibromyalgia, I experienced severe digestive issues. This personal challenge led me to explore the connection between gut health and overall wellness, ultimately inspiring my career path and the creation of Supercharged Food and Supercharge Your Gut.
What’s your best advice for those healing from gut issues?
For those healing from gut issues, my best advice is to focus on whole, anti-inflammatory foods and to cut down on processed foods or ingredients that are a personal irritant. (These foods are different for everyone). Incorporating probiotic-rich foods like yoghurt and kefir, and gut healing broths can help repair the gut lining and improve nutrient absorption, leading to better digestion.
Your favourite gut healing recipe?
My Anti-inflammatory Toddy from Heal Your Gut.
You’ve written 11 books and speak around the world sharing advice.. Amazing…!!! What do you think has allowed you to thrive in your career?
The success I’ve achieved with my books and gut health products stems from a combination of factors. Firstly, having a unique lived experience as well as theoretical knowledge from being a qualified clinical nutritionist, has been instrumental in helping people improve their health and understand complex health information which is delivered in simple and practical ways. I’ve always strived to make health information accessible and enjoyable. My recipes and advice are designed to be easy to implement in everyday life for everyone. Persistence has been key to thriving in my career. The wellness industry is competitive, but I’ve remained committed to my core mission of helping others achieve good health. I’ve also embraced continuous learning, always staying updated on the latest nutritional research.
One piece of advice for those aspiring to your position.
My advice would be to find your unique voice and perspective. Don’t just follow trends – contribute something meaningful to the conversation. Also, be prepared to wear many hats. In this field, you’re not just a clinical nutritionist, but also an educator, product developer, writer, and entrepreneur. Embracing these roles and continuing to grow in all aspects of your work and study can give you longevity and authenticity.
